I thought it'd be appropriate to have a new profile picture thread for the cast of the new RP, so here it is. We use Fire Emblem sprite profiles to do this.

The table will be updated with new pics randomly. If you want to create pics of your or someone else's characters by using the same style as I did, just post the pics in this thread, and I'll add them to the table.

Koss, I was looking at this thread on our laptop (screen res of 1024x768), and I had to scroll over to see all the sprites on the top row. I think it'd look a lot better if you kept it down to eight or so sprites per row.

Nic: Thanks for telling me. I'll edit the table.

Doc: I'll be away from Saturday to Sunday my time (GMT+2), so I won't be able to start working on any additional pics until after that. If someone else can start working on the pics, it'd be great, but if not, I can try to see what I can come up with once I get back.

For anyone interested, it's rather easy to edit the pics as long as you have patience to do all the shadowing, tweaking etc. I've been using Fire Emblem 6-9 portraits (and occasionally some fan-made pics which I've happened to find) and I've simply been editing colours, taking facial features from here and there, adding new heads to existing torsos, making my own slight edits etc. I've mainly used MSPaint to do this although at times I've had to resort to Paint Shop Pro. I've generally used .gifs as my preferred file format although I don't mind if people use other formats like .jpg, .png etc. for their pics.

If anyone decides to make some additional portraits, I'd be happy if they made their faces look at the same direction as the other portraits in the table of this thread. I know Desh sticks out like a sore thumb from the rest, but I'll switch him around when I can be arsed to do that.

Fire Emblem is a series of games which had character portraits that we've been using as a basis for our tGA portraits.

Take a look at [THIS POST] (http://www.thegamersalliance.net/forums/showpost.php?p=12267&postcount=14) for further info and for some links to the original Fire Emblem character portraits that we've been using when we've been modifying our own profile pics.

If you don't want to make a portrait yourself (and it isn't obligatory; it's just for fun), you can always ask in this thread if someone else could do a pic for you. The basis of one's portrait is taken from how the character's appearance has been described in the Profiles thread.

Our sprite portraits have traditionally been in .gif or .png file formats (because .jpg tends to look messy).

AK: Please take a look at [THIS POST] (http://www.thegamersalliance.net/forums/showpost.php?p=12267&postcount=14).

Basically we use sprites from the older Fire Emblem games, and that link takes you to an "incomplete" list of portraits that we use as a basis for our own profile pics.

We often cut off heads/torsos/eyes/hair/whatever and combine them into other Fire Emblem portrait sprites, and we might even recolour them and do other minor tweaks (e.g. elven ears).

The general size of the portraits is 80x72 pixels for reasons of convenience, and we tend to save the pics in either .gif or .png format (.jpgs, on the other hand, tend to look messy so we try to avoid them).

It takes time and motivation, but the pic editing isn't that hard once you get a hang of it. Nic, I or anyone else will surely help any of you out if you want your character pics done.

I just copy/pasted from the character tables Koss posted, popped it into IrfanView, decreased color depth to 256 color, and edited the palette.

I'm afraid I fail at making shades of brown from RGB color balances, so Steve looks blonder than I'd planned, and his armor more yellow.

Yeah, I definitely don't mind making them for people. (Unless you're like certain people whose names begin with P and end with AWL and are PICKY AS HELL ABOUT HOW I MAKE YOUR CHARACTER LOOK AND THEN NEVER SHOW UP TO RP)

So Steve should have light brown hair, huh? ...Hmm.

As for me, I usually use Animation Shop 3. Simple enough to use, easy to add transparency if needed, and easy to replace colors.

Shun: Thanks. I do what I can with the material I'm given, but every elven ear always takes time and even then the shading doesn't come out in a proper way. But as long as it serves its purpose and pleases people, I'll be happy.

Oh, I also added a few pics to the table and to Quick Character Listing. I always thought that the corporeal forms of the gods had this sort of golden, heavenly aura, so I tried to make them look golden in an eerie way. I'm not saying that the gods have to look the way I made them look; this is just how I see them in my mind's eye.

As you've probably noticed, the ears of some other half-elves and even elves vary. I think we can keep them the way they are and just explain the differences in an easy way. After all, not every human's ears look similar, so some half-elves' ears might've become more 'elf-like' than others etc.

Would someone please make an avater for this character as I have no knowledge how to edit the pictures nor the programs.

Here is the description. However anyone makes it is fine.

170cm tall man who does not have a large muscular build, rather he has the type of build that is associated with being agile, I guess he'd be ripped though. He has brown hair, mildly tanned, and shimmering blue eyes. Nivek wears community clothing following the trend in Maar Sul but he favours white, brown and black shirts. He has big black boots for kicking ass, a scar on his left cheek and a tattoo of a thief sword inside the moon on his right shoulder.

I know, I'm just nitpicking. I know how annoying it can be to get the eyes look Asian enough (I remember struggling with Takamoto's eyes quite some time before Doomy helped me out). xD

I'd say she's full Yamatian. I thought that sprite looked somewhat "asian" to begin with, personally. And it just looked stupid when I tried to get her eyes to look more "asian" without overdoing it. Or feeling like a racist. Females just don't look right with narrow eyes. Look at Rhylian, she could easily pass for a male.

Iwasaki looks more Mexican to me, personally. xD

And yeah, sorry. I kinda forgot about having access to that sort of thing. ;x

I was originally looking for a profile pic that looked intimidating enough, and I thought that that particular pic was suitable for Nergal (with the creepy look and scarred eye etc.). It was only later on when I realized that the pic's name was Nergal, so it just made it even more appropriate.

I think it's quite fitting that Agarwaen has Pronin's face in Marcus's body. After all, those two men were quite influential in Remon (Marcus as the king and leader of the Alliance, and Pronin as the founder of Proninist Party) so maybe they channel the two aspects of Agarwaen or something. xD

Thanks. I suggest you save the pics as .png instead of .jpg in the future because .jpg image quality can get really blurry whereas .png keeps all the image data intact (and the image stays sharp). :)
