NOTE: This is an old list of races that Libaterra had and thus it is out of date but left here for reference. Nowadays players are only allowed to choose from three races: human, elf, dwarf. Crossbreeds of the three races are possible, though, such as half-elves. If players want to include a new race, they need to talk to the Council about it first. For more information, check the FAQ and Rules threads in Crossroads.

THE ORIGINAL POST

Races: Humans, Sarquil, Elves, Dwarves, Underfoots, Sirithai (Banned!), (Hisakata) Elvaan, Free Race, Sinlarine, Simoe, Fraquid.

.::. Human .::.
Self explinatory. =PP

.::. Sarquil .::. (Pronounced: Sar-kuil)
A race of barbarian people who live in the deserts of Libaterra. They live in tribes except in the city of Vanna, which is where the first of the Sarquil (Tronin) supposedly was laid to rest. The Sarquil survive off of eating the spoils of war, birds and desert animals. They can withstand great temperatures and can go for days without drinking or eating. They are a highly-endurant and strong race of warriors and have great pride in their tribes. Very few venture outside of the blistering heat of the desert except in times of war. Those that do move outwith their homes usually become body guards and mercenaries. The Sarquil, knowing no use for money, trade freely and never accept money for goods or services. Most of their trade resides with the Simoe. The Sarquil are great believers in magic and fear it as they have no understanding of it. Each village has a shaman who provides healing, spells and curses as and when required. Tribes may, from time to time, clash with other tribes, but this is nothing out of the ordinary for the battling Sarquil.
The Sarquil are a tall race (they believe it was because their ancestors had their heads held high with pride) and are very muscle bound. Boys train to become warriors at the tender age of seven and continue training their whole lives, but girls begin training at the later age of 13. Oddly, this warrior tribe matriarchal and is lead by the woman they consider their queen. Every year, however, any young woman of 18 can challenge the queen to a duel and should she die, the challenger takes the throne. Their is a great fuss being made by the Yamatians about venturing into the Sarquil's desert, as it is never a wise idea to charge into a desert full of huge, muscle bound warriors who have no qualms about fighting until death. The Yamatians, however, are eager to make the advance into the desert, just apprehensive. As well they should be.

.::. Elves .::.
Pretty much follow the Tolkein Elf blue-print, and live mostly in the forests and cities as they despise being in towns open to the elements or attack.

.::. Dwarves .::.
The "little folk" are very much like professor Tolkein's dwarves, and many of them live in the mountains, cities or in secluded areas of Libaterra.

.::. The Underfoot .::.
The Underfoot are like Hobbits, but less innocent. Many of them, while honorable, are drunken, foul-mouthed creatures and live in small farming communities spread out through Libaterra. Truth be told, the Underfoot are like Dwarves, though they would much rather liken themselves to Elves, and whilst they can be rude and fiesty, they are a jovial race of people who like a song and dance in their lives. They trade freely with all races and just live out their lives in peace.
The Underfoot are a very short race of people, the tallest being of a little over 3 feet. Many of them end up leaving their farming towns for a wilder life of adventuring (and where the young male Underfoot are concered, they'd like to believe "wine, women and wonder".) They are usually quite rotund, but not so that it in any way hinders them. They are a steadfast race and once they make a committment to a duty they are loyal to it unto the end, even if they're drunk whilst doing it.
The Underfoot have no religion or leader, and just live their lives are they please.

.::. Sinlarine .::. (Pronounced: Sin-la-reen)
The Sinlarine, like the Sarquil, live in Tribes, but mostly in districts within already established towns and cities. They are a race of "ghost people", with the ability to see and speak to the dead. They are also very lyrical people, with a great love of music and song. They, also like the Sarquil, can vary on their barbarity. Some tribes have more talents of the ghost people. Some care more for music. Some are warriors. Whatever they are, all tribes hold Tsèni tournaments.
A Tsèni tournament is a "triathlon" of sword fighting, archery and weapon finesse. It's a fighting tournament, done the Sinlarine way. Many people from all walks of life travel to see the annual Tsèni tournaments, as they are a great national spectacle. The winning Tribe may take over or absorb their pick of the losing tribes, or the chieftan may select the losing chieftan's sons/daughters to marry into their family. The Sinlarine have an old set of values where Tribes merge into one another by way of marriage.
The Sinlarine all have dark hair, and sallow skin, with a rather Asian look about them. Most of their women are beautiful, and their men heavily built. They tend to travel about a lot, and are quite sociable.
The Sinlarine follow the religion of the ghost, and worship the dead. The have festivals every year to honour them, and it would not be unusual to see at least one Sinlarine in any graveyard at any time you visit. They are sometimes feared because of their relation to the dead, but are more often than not embraced by the community at large.

.::. Itica .::. (Pronounced: It-i-ka)
The Itica are a dead race, only a few of their kind still existing. They are half-breeds, half human and half feline. They were once loathed by the humans of Libaterra, who disliked them because they were considered to be "freaks" and "outsiders". Many believed them to be a war-mongering race, which was far from true, and too advanced for 'heathens' of their kind. However, the humans could do nothing to rid themselves of the Itica because they only lived in one city, Llirin, and it was not known where it was. It was built in a forest with homes built both in the trees and on the ground, and the Itica only ever made contact with humans if they ventured out to explore or find provisions, and this rarely happened. Nevertheless, they were hated.
Eventually, the old monarchs of Libaterra ordered the army to plan the destruction of the Itica, and the generals offered one Itica (Misao Otomo) lands and a potion (which made his Itica traits disappear) to reveal the location of Llirin, which he did. The Itica were betrayed and their city burnt to the ground. Only a few survived, and they fled to their ancient hidden city known as the sanctuary. This angered the Generals and it has been on the army agenda ever since to find the location of the sanctuary, but they never have. This order has been forgotten, however, and a few of the Itica venture outside the sanctuary to find their futures, even though they are often not warmly recieved by the all of the residents of Libaterra.
The Itica have golden/blue eyes, tails, ears and hands as a human does, with longer, stronger nails. They are often quite tall, but not as tall as the Sarquil, with proud yet nuturing demeanors. They feel a connection to nature, and do not believe in taking anything from it without replacing it. The Itica are not known to have any religion but this.

.::. Simoe .::. (Pronounced: Sim-oh-ee)
The Simoe live in lantern shaped shacks attached to the sides of the Simoe gorge, which runs along the south of the great river. They are a peaceful race but very superstitious, and try not to have any contact with those outside their own race. They do, however, trade with the Sarquil; weapons and magic for food, water and clothing.
The Simoe have long, elegant necks and painted hands. Their skin is a light mocha color and their eyes can be anything from green to grey to purple. Their faces are intentionally scarred after birth with their race's markings, which are painted and repainted again and again. Some Simoe leave their homes early on in life to attempt to establish new colonies or simply to train. It is not uncommon for the Simoe and Sarquil to marry into one another or for a Simoe to train in the ways of the Sarquil. They were said to have been descended from the same blood lines.
The Simoe have no leader, and have never taken much interest in the ongoings of the outside world. They simply live on a day by day basis and have little care for the activities of the Yamatians or Rebels, or anyone else for that matter.
The Simoe live close to water and as such believe in water deities above all others. They have great respect for waters and will not eat fish unless their is an over abundance of it. They also do not drink without first annointing their heads with small droplets of the water, for they believe that this is a way of sending thanks to the water deities. They understand that without water we could not survive and thus believe that water Gods are the most powerful of all.

.::. Fraquid .::. (Pronounced: Fra-huide)
The Fraquid live on the snow planes of Traquine and are a very intelligent race. They have been said to have great magical powers, and no one has ever tried to discover whether or not this fact is true without concequence. They can be quite ruthless and sadistic, and when they move outwith Traquine become archmages or mercenaries of finely tuned magical finesse. They dislike the use of weapons other than those made by other Fraquid and weapons are often handed down through family lines as an inheritance.
ALL Fraquid have white hair and blue eyes, and some have blue veins that protrude from under the skin on certain parts of their body. They have slightly pointed ears, and were at some time believed to have been distantly related to Elves, who now seem worlds apart from the Fraquid. The Fraquid believe they lie outside the boundries of any government's control and fight against anyone who dares try to invade their land, though they recently lost Gormin to the Yamatians. The used to largely support the rebels, but now they have lost all allegiance and simply fight for themselves. They more enjoy inflicting pain upon the opposing side than anything else, no matter who it is.
The Fraquid do not believe in injuring "family" and will not attack other Fraquid unless attacked themselves. This leads their overall murder count on the island of Traquine to be zero and it is a prosperous nation.
Most of the Fraquid worship the Goddess Ito and God Gormin, naming one of their towns after him. These two Gods promote different ideals, Ito being a peaceful snow Goddess of watchful eye and Gormin being a war God. The career choices of the Fraquid thus break off into these two forks; the way of the sword of the way of the watchful eye, becoming warriors or mages. This is the way it has always been for the Fraquid and though some of their kind do not follow these two ways it is rare to find a Fraquid who does not worship either Ito or Gormin in some fashion.

.::. Sirithai .::. {BANNED} (Pronounced: Sur-ith-hi)
Children of the Gods, little is known about the Sirithai other than they all rest in a crypt underneath the city of Lutherin. It is said they will awaken one day, but they have showed no signs of doing so. The Yamatians crashed through the crypt beneath the city, and made attempts to wake them up but to no avail.

.::. (Hisakata) Elvaan .::.
From a long line of half Demon/half Elves, the Hisakata Elvaan clan have not made themselves well known has a sub-race. They have instead chosen to remain hidden from view, honing their skills inside the clan's village. A race of warriors, assassins, mercenaries and, unusually, the religious, the Hisakata clan was started by a demon and an elf's offspring, and years of breeding this way has led to the now appearance of the Hisakata Elvaan.
Once a race with proud red wings, bright blue eyes, Elvish looks and horns, breeding of the Elvaan with mostly Elves has led to the wings and horns receeding, and eye colour becoming more variable. The small, feathery red wings they now have are entirely useless, and the race have retained little of their demon bloodlust, though during battle they are fierce and terrifying opponents because a trace of it still remains in instinct. It is still a tradition of the race to drink the blood of fallen opponents.
The Hisakata Elvaan were discovered by the Yamatians on their campaign, and a deal was made that if the Yamatians did not destroy or injure the Elvaan or Kirsa in any way, the Elvaan would be Yamato's to call upon whenever they were needed. It was a deal born out of a race tired of having to defend their own home town, and though the Elvaan would stick to their word in being there if the Yamatians called, they would also not be as loyal as the Yamatians would wish them to be. An independant race of people, they do not take lightly to being told what to do.
The Elvaan run their town efficiently and it is self contained, and though some members of the race venture out into the outside world to make their name, most prefer to stay in their home town. Humans fear the Elvaan for their demonic nature, but unlike half-Elven humans, the Elves have accepted the Elvaan graciously as being a superior off-shoot of their race, but of course not superior to full blooded Elves themselves.
The Elvaan are not vicious without cause, but are definitely not a race who you want to be on the wrong side of.

.::. Free Race .::.
The RPer invents their own race by offering a description of the race, incuding its history, appearance, religion and region of origin. It is then up to the DM or Leader to decide whether or not to allow this race.
